Ayurvedic measures to prevent mouth ulcers

In order to relish and enjoy the food we intend to have, first it should be tasty enough. At the same time, in spite of it being tasty, secondly there should not be any impediment clinically such as having inability to chew the food, or pain in the mouth or presence of oral ulcers and boils that prevent us from relishing what we eat. Then only it will be delicious, even if it is a panacea or amirtham.  Otherwise though the plate is full it will be reachable only by hands but could not be relished as the ulcers or sores in the mouth do not allow us to enjoy the food due to pain and discomfort. One will be forced to swallow food just for the sake of filling the stomach. Generally, mouth ulcers will disappear within a week of consuming appropriate food or on their own. But there are specific ulcers that will continue to make us suffer terribly. Doctors caution us that there are some ulcers that are due to other secondary health problems reflecting through orally. If the mouth ulcers are prolonged it could be due to cancerous conditions within the body. Hence it is important to have the ulcers assessed to find out the reasons and getting treated promptly.

‘There are varieties of mouth ulcers that need not be inevitable or incurable’ says Ayurvedic practitioner Dr. R Balamurugan. He delineates about the simple means ofBalamurugan Ayurvedic treatments against mouth ulcers using easily available herbs. 

Mouth ulcers/sores

At the beginning mouth ulcer will reveal itself as boils. After some days the boils will burst out and becomes ulcerative pits causing considerable pain and discomfort. It will instigate pain while eating and talking. Headache and fever could also be found.

Reasons
There are many reasons for developing mouth ulcers. The reasons could be constipation, bile and digestion related, body heat, deficiency of vitamin C, B12, lack of resistance to diseases, intake of high potent drug and food poisoning.

It could happen to those who smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, betel, tobacco and pan masala users and diabetics. Further, those have poor oral health, stomach and intestinal ulcers, those who suffer from anxiety and anger are more prone to mouth ulcers. Getting hit internally while brushing the teeth could also lead to mouth ulcers. Similarly, drinking coffee or tea with extreme heat can also develop into oral or mouth ulcers.

Foods
Green chilies, sour tasting food items can be avoided when you are suffering from mouth ulcers. Sweet, bitter and salty tasting foods are recommended in more quantities. 

Drink porridge made of jaggery and green gram. Include leafy vegetables, spinach, cow milk, coconut milk, snake gourd, ridge gourd, Amla or Indian gooseberry along with food. White pumpkin or Agathikeerai (Sesbania sp.) can be prepared as food which will be an immediate cure. Flowers and leaves of drumstick and Sirukeerai (Amaranthus sp.) can be taken in. Leaves of guava can be chewed and spitted out to heal mouth ulcers. Adhimathuram (Alpinia galanga) and Kadukkai (Chebulic myrobalan) powers mixed with honey and be taken in.
Mouth boils

Honey can be applied on the ulceration part of the mouth. Gargling can be done using organic rose or areca nut boiled in water. Drink coconut milk and can also be gargled and swallowed.

Food poisoning, drug allergy cases can avoid particular food or drugs that cause the problem.

Stop drinking alcohol if you are habituated. Do not smoke. Don’t use betel, tobacco or pan masala. The diabetics should keep blood glucose level in control. 

In order to gain resistance to diseases chooses balanced diets.

Anxiety and worry would also cause mouth ulcers. Therefore keep the mind calm and happy.

Caution

Disease causing bacterial and viral infections, such as chickenpox, measles, AIDS may also cause mouth ulcers. Therefore, if mouth ulcers are prolonged, or occurring frequently it is advised to seek medical help at the earliest.
